To make orchids that enter autumn flowerless bloom again, you need to provide them with proper care, including natural fertilizers and the right environmental conditions. Orchids require essential nutrients at regular intervals, which you can provide through homemade or store-bought fertilizers. I prefer making them at home using natural ingredients, and today, I will share an effective method that involves rice and aloe vera.

Step 1: Preparing Rice Water Fertilizer

Rice contains essential vitamins and minerals that help orchids’ leaves and roots rejuvenate and grow healthily. To create a rice water fertilizer, follow these steps:

  1. Take one tablespoon of rice and place it in a bowl.
  2. Add water to the rice and stir well.
  3. Let it sit for at least 30 minutes to allow the nutrients to infuse into the water.

If you already have unsalted rice water from cooking, you can also use that instead.

Step 2: Preparing Aloe Vera Fertilizer

Aloe vera is highly beneficial for orchids due to its rich content of amino acids, vitamins, and minerals. It not only helps orchids bloom but also promotes healthy root growth. Here’s how to prepare aloe vera fertilizer:

  1. Cut a fresh aloe vera leaf and let the yellow liquid drain out.
  2. Slice the aloe vera leaf into small pieces.
  3. Place the sliced aloe vera in a blender.
  4. Add 200 ml of water and blend until smooth.
  5. Strain the blended mixture to remove any solid parts, as the roots of orchids should not come into contact with plant residues.

Step 3: Mixing and Applying the Fertilizer

Now that we have both rice water and aloe vera juice ready, it’s time to combine them for an effective fertilizer:

  1. Strain the rice water into a glass jug.
  2. Measure 500 ml of rice water and add 300 ml of aloe vera juice.
  3. Mix the solution well.

Before applying the fertilizer, always check the roots of the orchid. If the roots are white or gray, it means the orchid needs water. If they are green, it means they have sufficient moisture, and watering should be avoided. Overwatering can cause root rot, yellowing leaves, and wilting flowers.

How to Apply the Fertilizer

For each orchid pot:

  • Add six tablespoons of the mixture.
  • Apply this fertilizer once a month to prevent overfeeding.

This natural fertilizer is especially beneficial for flowerless orchids in autumn, as it encourages the development of flower branches. However, it can also be used for orchids that are already in bloom, as they still require nutrients to sustain their flowers.

Observing the Effects of the Fertilizer

Once the orchids absorb the liquid plant nutrients, you will notice gradual improvements:

  • The roots will turn from gray to green, indicating proper hydration.
  • New roots will grow stronger and healthier.
  • Flower branches will begin to emerge more quickly.

Additional Tips for Flowering Orchids in Autumn

  1. Light Exposure: Position orchids near a window where they receive plenty of indirect light. In autumn, orchids require ample morning or afternoon sunlight for short periods to stimulate flower growth.
  2. Avoid Overwatering: Always check root color before watering. Orchids with green roots should not be watered, while those with gray roots need moisture.
  3. Air Circulation: Ensure that orchids are kept in a well-ventilated area to prevent mold and fungal diseases.
  4. Temperature Control: Maintain a moderate temperature range, as extreme cold or heat can hinder flowering.
  5. Regular Feeding: In addition to monthly liquid fertilizer, consider using organic materials such as banana peel water, eggshell water, or rice water every few weeks to provide additional nutrients.

By following these methods, you can encourage your orchids to bloom again in autumn and enjoy a vibrant, healthy display of flowers. Let me know if you have any questions or share your experiences in the comments!
