For many of us, having our homes filled with plants is an obsession, but keeping them healthy and flourishing can be a real challenge. To successfully care for and encourage abundant flowering in your plants, we’ll guide you on preparing enriched irrigation water.
Plants may cease to grow or show signs of distress, such as yellowing leaves or an overall weakened appearance. Fortunately, there are natural ingredients with nutrients like vitamins and minerals that can help revive our plants.
Each plant has different irrigation needs: some adapt well to extended dry periods, while others require consistently moist soil. However, all plants need nutrients.
Despite the variety of fertilizers available, including liquid ones, a simple way to nourish your plants daily is through enriched irrigation water. Here’s how to enhance it with nutrients.
You’ll need:
- Banana peels
- Cooking water from vegetables, pasta, or eggs (without salt, sugar, or other seasonings)
- A container with an airtight seal
Instructions:
- After cooking your food (pasta, vegetables, or eggs), drain them and save the cooking water, allowing it to cool.
- In the container with an airtight seal, pour the cooking water and add the chopped banana peels. Then, seal the container.
- Keep it sealed for two days, after which you should discard it to prevent the liquid from stagnating.
- Dilute the mixture with pure water and use the liquid to water your plants at least once a week.
Cooking water from pasta, vegetables, or eggs contains valuable nutrients for plants. The potassium released from banana peels will give your plants an extra boost during their flowering period.
Note: Adjust the quantity of banana peels based on the size of your container and the amount of water you have. Experiment and observe how your plants respond to find the right balance.
