With the arrival of the beautiful season, a countryside escapade is an invitation one can’t refuse. However, before heading out, let’s adopt the bottle trick to avoid any unpleasant surprises!

Let’s go through all the steps we should take before closing the door for a few days, even if it’s just a short trip.

Firstly, shut off the water supply: if there happen to be annoying leaks in our absence, we won’t risk finding our floors flooded due to a plumbing explosion. Then, turn off the electricity: this will prevent potential short circuits, especially if a thunderstorm strikes. Now, empty the fridge and freezer to avoid wasting food. Finally, turn off the gas.

If we have four-legged friends, let’s take them with us; but if it’s not possible, find them temporary accommodation so we can leave them in good hands.

Once done, double-check to make sure you have everything: chargers, they always seem to stay plugged in… don’t forget them, or perhaps yes? That way, we’ll truly disconnect from the world—especially the social one—for a while! But then, give in and take them with you.

What’s missing?!? On the balcony, terrace, or window sills, our beloved plants, almost in bloom, might suffer from our absence… support them with the bottle trick!

Going Away for a Few Days? Use the Bottle Trick!

The greenery we carefully cultivate on our balconies or terraces is at risk of being left to its own devices when we close the front door and head out for a countryside getaway.

Upon our return, we might find the plants dehydrated, and we can’t always rely on the cooperation of neighbors or weather conditions.

To solve this age-old problem and leave with peace of mind, all we need to do is get one or more plastic bottles. We’ll reduce our waste volume and repurpose them to create a quick and homemade irrigation system.

All you have to do is make small holes in the bottom, fill it with water, and place it in the soil inside the pots. The liquid will flow slowly, keeping our greenery well-hydrated until our return!

Easy, isn’t it?! In just a few minutes, you’ll safeguard yourself from unpleasant surprises!
